Veeam One

Veeam One is the monitoring solution provided by Veeeam. It enables management of both virtual environments and backup infrastructure. With Veeam One 12.1, it is possible to support your Veeam for M365 environment. Veeam One also offers monitoring and reporting capabilities.

Veeam One components

Two following components are provided by Veeam.

  • Veeam ONE Client
  • : Veeam One Client is the tools used to supervise different environments (virtuel, Veeam Backup, etc.). It”s possible to manage, view and interact with the Veeam One alarm, monitoring environments, etc.
  • Veeam ONE Web Client
  • provide a dashboard and reports. With this tools, it’s easier to verify the configuration and detect configuration problem. Other feature are provides (optimize resource use, planning capacity growth, etc.).

Architecture of Veeam One

The following elements are present in the Veeam ONE architecture.

  • Veeam ONE Server : This components permit to collect data from the virtual environments, Veeam Backup & Replication or Veeam Backup for M365
  • Veeam ONE Web Services permit the access at Veeam ONE Server and handle rendering of reports.
  • Veeam ONE Client. This component is a client for the Veeam ONE Server. He permit to communicate with the locally or remotely server.
  • Veeam ONE Databasepermit to store the data in the Veeam ONE database. It can be hosted directly on database server or remotely.
  • Veeam ONE Agent is used for the communication between Veeam Backup & Replication servers and Veeam ONE. Agent collect the logs and send remediation commands

System requirements

Before deploying Veeam ONE it’s important to verify the requirements. The server must have 4 cores minimum and 8 GB of RAM (16 Gb is recommended). For the disk space 50 Gb is sufficient for the database server and Veeam ONE. The operating system must be Windows Server (2012 or above) or windows 10/11. SQL Server 2012 or above is used for the database server. Veeam ONE Web client requires the use of Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Office 2010 or above and Microsoft Visio 2010 or above

Install Veeam ONE

Mount the Veeam ISO File and run the setup.exe file

Click on Install on the wizard.

Select Veeam ONE 12.1 in the wizard.

Two components are available, click on Install Veeam ONE.

The licence aggrement must be accepted. Click on I accept.

Select the Veeam licence with Browse licence file and click on Next. If the licence file is not selected, the community edition is used (10 instances and limited functionality). Select the service account with the Choose

Click on Customize Settings if you want customize one or more settings then click on Install.

Click on Finish when the installation is finished. Click on Yes to close the session.

Add Hypervisor

We can now add the hypervisor, Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware can be added.

From the desktop launch Veeam ONE Client then click on Connect. From the console, click on the menu then on Add Server.

A new windows appear, click on Microsoft Hyper-V.

Type the IP Address of the server and select the type (Hyper-V host for me).

Add the credential to connect to the server with the Add button.

Click on Finish. A new windows appear to connect to the guest OS of VMs. Add the desired credential for Windows VM and Linux VM. This credential can be modify after from the server settings window.

The hypervisor appear in the Virtual Infrastructure blade. We can see the VM and the storage. The state of health is displayed, providing an indication of a potential problem.

Add VMware server

From the desktop launch Veeam ONE Client then click on Connect. From the console, click on the menu then on Add Server. Click on VMware vSphere.

Enter the IP address or DNS name of the server and select the type (ESX or vCenter).

Add the admin account and click on Next.

Click on Finish. The server appear in the Virtual Infrastructure blade. The VM, etc. is discovered.
