Upgrade to veeam v12
Backup configuration
Veeam v12 is now officaliy available. We can see on this post the upgrade of the version of Veeam v11 to v12) and the upgrade of the database (SQL to PostGreSQL). The upgrade has performed on the same server. If you have installed Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager, you need to upgrade it before.
It’s recommanded to backup the veeam configuration before upgrade the version of migrate the database to Postgre. From the wizard, click on the menu then on Configuration Backup.
Check Enable configuration backup to the following repository and Enable backup file encryption then click on Add.
Enter the password then click on OK.
Click on Backup Now to launch configuration backup then click on OK when it’s finished.
Upgrade Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager
Run the setup file on the Veeam server then click on Upgrade in the wizard.
Click on Upgrade Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager, the other option are disabled as long as the update is not done.
Click on I accept to accept the licence agreement.
The upgrade has performed to the v12 version, click on Next.
You can use the Browse button to select a new license file or use the previous.
Enter the password of the user account then click on Next.
For now, we cn’t use PostGreSQL. We migrate after the migration, configure the SQL Server instance and the database name then click on Next
Click on Upgrade to begin upgrade of Enterprise Manager.
Click on Finish when the upgrade is finished.
Upgrade Veeam Backup & Replication
Run the setup file on the Veeam server then click on Upgrade in the wizard.
The option Upgrade Veeam Backup & Replication is now enabled click on it to perform the upgrade.
Click on I accept to accept licence agreement.
Check Update remote components automatically to upgrade the remote veeam components. Then click on Next.
You can use the Browse button to select a new license file or use the previous.
Enter the password of the user account then click on Next.
For now, we cn’t use PostGreSQL. We migrate after the migration, configure the SQL Server instance and the database name then click on Next
Click on upgrade for perform upgrade operation then click on Finish. Launch the Veeam console, the version is now been upgraded. Click on Apply to update the Veeam components. The wizard contain all of the server and components who the update is required.
Upgrade SQL to PostgreSQL
Install Veeam Server
On this scenario, a new Veeam server will be used. We migrate to veeam v12 with SQL instance to Veeam v12 with PostGreSQL instance. From the Iso of Veeam Backup & Replication, launch installation of Veeam v12 to a new server.
Click on Install to perform the installation.
Click on Install Veeaam Backup & Replication in the wizard.
Click on I accept to accept the license terms.
Select the license file then click on Next.
System Configuration Check is performed, click on Customize Settings.
Configure the service account windows then click on Next
Select PostgreSQL in the drop-down list then click on Next.
Configure the following windows then click onInstall to perform installation.
Restore configuration
Perform a backup of the veeam configuration before migrate to the new server. From the Veeam console in the old server, click on the menu then on Configuration Backup
Click on Backup now to perform a new backup of the configuration.
When the backup is finished, copy the file to the new server.click on Restore.
From the Veeam console in the new server, click on the menu then on Configuration Backup.click on Restore in the windows.
Check Migrate in the wizard then click on Next.
Select the latest backup file then click on Analyze.
Enter the password then click on Validate.
Select PostgreSQL in the Database drop-down list then click on Connect.
A new windows appear, click on Yes.
Click on Restore to perform the restoration. A new windows appear, click on Yes.
If all step is validated, click on Next.
Validate the following windows and click on Start. Click on Finish when the restoration is finished.
