Altaro O365 Backup permit to backup and restore the Office 365 mailboxes and files present on Onedrive or Sharepoint.

The license is of subscription type (annual or multi-year). With Altaro, you can manage and monitor the backup centrally. The storage for the backup is unlimited. Backups are automated and will be taken daily up to 4 times a-day. Afterwards, the registration in the Azure infrastructure of Altaro is carried out.

Configure Altaro backup

After creating the Altaro platform, click on Link your first Office 365 Organisation to the portal.

Enter the Office 365 Organization Company Name and the custom domain name configured on Office 365. Click on Next.

The Office 365 domain has been verify. Click on step 1 for grant access.

A web page appear, enter Global Admin Office 365 credential.

Click on Close access are properly granted

Click on Step 2 for grant temporary access to Altaro for create new application.

A web page appear, select Global Admin Office 365 credential. Click on Close, access has been granted.

New application has been present on Azure Active Directory (Please make sure not to delete or interfere with these Applications).

Click on Step 3 for grant access to the new Altaro Applications to backup and restore Office 365 data.

A web page appear, select Global Admin Office 365 credential. Click on Close, access has been granted. Click on Next.

You can select to backup all users or only few users. You can also automatically back up new users. Check Select Users to Back Up option and select the desired user. For each organisation, you can choose to backup either just Mailboxes, or Mailboxes, OneDrive and SharePoints.

Select the desired choice for Sharepoint document librairies and click on Next.

Backup will then be automated to run daily. Click on Finsih.

Office 365 organization has been configured on Altaro Backup.

Backup users

From the Altaro portal, click on Backups then on Mailbox & OneDrive. Users has been present. You can view if user has excluded and if backup are in queued.

Restore data

You can restore the entire user (one drive, mailbox or sharepoint) or restore granularly. We restore the entire user on the first time. With this restore, you can’t have granularity, we can see this point later. From the Altaro portal, click on Restore then select the desired object (Mailbox, Sharepoint or OneDrive).

I want to restore OneDrive. Click on OneDrive and click on Next.

Select the desired OneDrive and click on Next. My two users Nicolas BONNET appear.

Select the desired version and click on Next.

You can choose a restore destination :

• Restore file and folder on the same OneDrive Account : Files and folders are restored in the user’s onedrive.

• Restore file and folder on the different OneDrive Account : Files and folders are restored in another user’s onedrive.

• Restore to ZIP Archive : user receive mail with link for download Zip Archive. This file contain all files and folders on onedrive.

I want to restore file to ZIP file. This option is interesting if user want to retrieve his files before leaving the company.

The ZIp file is encrypted. Click on Copy then on Restore.

Enter the credential of the user and click on Verify Credentials.

Restoration has started. The download link has been send by mail.

Click on the link for download Zip Archive.

After that enter the passphrase, I can access to the Zip Archive file.

Granular Restore

From the Altaro portal, click on Granular Restore and select Office 365 organisation.

Select object that you want restore.

Select object that you want restore then click on Restore selected items.

A windows appear, click on Next.

Multiple option has available for restore :

• Restore Selected items back to the same Mailbox : The selected items are restored on the user’s mailbox

• Restore Selected items to a different Mailbox : The selected items are restored on the mailbox of other user.

• Restore to PST file: The selected items are restored to the PST file.

• Restore to Zip Archive: The selected items are restored to the Zip file.

I want to restore items on PST file so I choose Restore to PST file option.

PST file are placed on Zip file. This file is encrypted by passphrase. Click on Copy then on Restore.

Restoration has started. The download link has been send by mail.

Click on the link for download Zip Archive.

After that enter the passphrase, I can access to the Zip Archive file.

Altaro O365 Backup offers a very pleasant user experience. The wizards are very easy to use.

Creating the application in Azure AD allows a simplified configuration of the authentication between the Altaro platform and Azure AD. It is also interesting to note the automatic backups that take place up to four times a day. Restoration also offers many interesting options for a granular or complete restoration.

In addition, the unlimited storage space on the Altaro infrastructure is an important advantage for large infrastructures.
